Remembering Bobby Eaton

Bobby Lee Eaton

Born: August 14, 1958 in Huntsville, Alabama

Died: August 4, 2021 in Nashville, Tennessee

Midnight Express ( Bobby Eaton and Dennis Condrey) with Jim Cornette

Bobby Lee Eaton had tremendous psychology and timing in the ring, and was one of the best in-ring performers with his flawless working style. Stone Cold Steve Austin referred to working with Eaton as, “A night off” because Eaton’s in-ring offense looked convincing but did not hurt his opponents.

Eaton wrestled from 1976 to 2015, and worked in various wrestling promotions, including NWA Mid-
America, Continental Wrestling Association, Mid-South Wrestling, World Class Championship Wrestling, Jim Crockett Promotions, World Championship Wrestling, and Smoky Mountain Wrestling. Eaton also worked on the independent scene later in his career and three stints with New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Eaton was a tag team specialist, and was a member of the framed The Midnight Express, one of the greatest tag teams of all-time, and was managed by Jim Cornette. With the Midnight Express, Eaton used “quick tags” and “innovative double-team maneuvers”. An absolute feat for any in-ring performer is the ability to not repeat moves in a match, and some say the Midnight Express could “go forty-five minutes in the ring and never repeat a move.”

Besides for tagging with Dennis Condrey and Stan Lane as the Midnight Express, Eaton also tagged with Arn Anderson, Koko B. Ware, Steve Keirn, and Lord Steven Regal.

Bobby Eaton is a member of two Hall of Fames, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of fame, were he was inducted in 2009 and the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2019. Perhaps in the future, the Midnight Express will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame with their manager, Jim Cornette.
